In the current generations, it is easy to forget that kindness doesn’t come with a price tag. It’s totally free of charge! Kindness spreads love and positivity into this world of ours and to the people around us including ourselves. It also brings positivity into our own lives as we do our part in moulding the society and the generations to come. A little kindness and girl power can go a long way because when women support one another, amazing things happen.
Throughout the past generations, the female presence has always been underrepresented. As we continue to evolve and challenge the societal norms, women have somehow lost the fundamental reason behind sisterhood. Women had become their own worst enemy and found it easier to support children, men and themselves but not each other. It is important to remember that the road to gender equality starts within its own community and in conjunction with Women’s International Day on the 8th of March, we’re ditching the “mean girls” act for support and sisterhood, both at work and in life.
As women, we all share the same struggles. From an oppressive history, the disparity in our daily lives or working environment to periods, pregnancy, labour and all the in-betweens, nobody understands what it feels like to be a woman aside from other women themselves. Women in our history have fought tirelessly for the rights and equality of women till this day; the fight for women so they are not seen as an ‘inferior’ sex. When women don’t support one another, it puts all the effort of the powerful women in the past in vain. It is so important to put all differences aside and continue the fight for them and we can easily do this by lifting each other up instead of competing with each other or tearing one another down. This way, it will show that women are strong together or individually and we are equal.
Women, for many years now, have been receiving shame for almost everything they do. From the clothes they wear, their body shape, the colour of their skin and how they generally look. It’s not a secret anymore that women and men are not viewed the same way and if a women were to choose to wear something considered as ‘revealing’ in the eyes of the men, they would be shamed for it and society would be for this opinion.
If the women society were to be on board with this criticism, it would only encourage the idea that women are expected to dress a certain way to be deemed decent and it would naturally hand the rights to society that they have the rights to label or judge women to what they think is acceptable. Why can’t women whatever they want? Why are men allowed to show a little bit of skin and women can’t or it would automatically mean “she was asking for it”?
In order to break this long-overdue stereotype, women must work together and support one another of the choices women make. For example, the choice of clothes, makeup, hair, body type etc, instead of putting each other to shame. The more we support one another as women, the more we show that we have the rights to decide how we should be seen in the eyes of the society and we have the rights to wear whatever we want.
When women help other women recognise their self-worth, the reward is truly priceless as kindness doesn’t cost a thing! It also feels nice when your kind actions and gentle words are reciprocated from time to time. For us women, we very prone to the desire of helping others. It’s instinctive of us to want to help other people as it’s natural to nurture and be nurtured by other people. Women often look for kindred souls who make them feel supported and with that being said, there is simply no harm in giving some of the positivity back.
Behind every successful woman you know if your life, there is surely one other strong women behind her being that pillar of support that she needs; giving her the words of encouragements, a shoulder to cry on, or even just by being a good listener. It is important to have sisterhood in a world where it could be cruel at times because as much as you can give yourself the affirmations you need, external affirmations from your sisterhood would be a lot of help too.
Working together to make a change will help every woman struggling with the same struggles you are facing and it has to begin with ourselves to make a change happen.
